Lab test at ALS Technichem, by Dr. Chin Teen Teen used Damansara river water with the following proven results:

  • BOD: from 11 to 8 mg/l
  • COD: from 31 to 21 mg/l
  • TSS: from 88 to 40 mg/l
  • NH3N: from 4.53 to 3.86 mg/l
  • Turbidity: from 91.3 to 35.2 NTU

This is a tidal flat with a sludge depth of about 20–40cm. This picture shows the beginning of the Nagasu-cho Coast Test in Kumamoto Prefecture, where no shellfish exist.

The water temperature is more than 25°C, reaction rate is good, and  sludge on the surface is removed, exposing shells below.There are no shellfish living there yet.

Young short neck clams appear and begin to be measured. The shell length is about 5 mm. 1250 clams per square meter.

The sludge is removed relatively quickly. Analysis of the sludge reveals that the organic component are diatoms which is a food source for fish and shellfish.

At this time, it was also determied that the percentage of mud was reduced to less than 10% (suitable for the habitation of Japanese littleneck clams)

2020

With the success of the Ariake Sea experiment, installation has begun in Tokyo Bay, Awaji-shima Island and the Seto Inland Sea.
